MUNAFIQ

Traditionally it is told to us that it is difficult to identify munafiq in this world and it may be very well true but it is necessary for you so as to save yourself from this disease, identify it, avoid it and rectify it if possible.

So from traditions we turn to Quran and ask Allah or guidance and support. In Quran we see and read Surah Munafiqoon (No-63). As a believer we can say that this Surah gives us the signs of munafiq in all their grades for all time to come.

إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُ وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَكَاذِبُونَ [٦٣:١]

This opening verse tells us that munafiqs are to be found within your society because they can give Shahadah that Muhammad PBUH is a prophet of Allah.

They are collective, they are liars and they turn back on their words. So that’s why you are told that a believer cannot be a liar because a lie is told to hide something in your soul. While a believer has nothing to hide, a munafiq has everything to hide in his soul while maintaining the appearance of believer. As a liar they cannot tolerate truth and make every effort to subdue it.

Thus observe your society, see how many people are lying, lying to achieve power, fame, status, money, goals, and now credibility and ratings. You can very easily identify such groups, stay away from them.

اتَّخَذُوا أَيْمَانَهُمْ جُنَّةً فَصَدُّوا عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ سَاءَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ [٦٣:٢]

Next you can identify from their works and actions. They are many groups, each one has created a belief from the ONE Belief, so as to become multiple groups each with multiple secondary believes. They carry significant amount of force and collectively they make a pretty nice appearing group. Their actions are opposite to what they say and because they lack any one standard they keep shifting from their original position, they create multiple standards and generally are not trustworthy.

Again see around yourself, many groups calling you to some new formed ideal or agenda, promising you of worldly heaven, having power and money to lure you in. Beware of them and focus only toward Allah.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ آمَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا فَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ [٦٣:٣]

Next , the very characteristic sign – a sealed heart and inactive mind. They are not capable of exegesis, they follow the traditions and already published material, incapable themselves to understand and comprehend the situation. This is all because from one belief, from one BOOK, they slip back to multiple self-made believes, self-written text and blindly following them till the time they are in darkness, there mind dark and dull and worst part is that they do not want to change the situation , eventually leading to kufr.

وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ تُعْجِبُكَ أَجْسَامُهُمْ 

There physical appearance is good. Because a munafiq always turn back to materialistic gains, they have lot of material power and wealth, they are capable of forming large groups at which you are surprised and they gather lot of followers or members.

وَإِن يَقُولُوا تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ ۖ كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌ مُّسَنَّدَةٌ 

They are very good with words. Well-chosen words, layer by layer explaining their agenda, there point of view, giving lengthy explanations, giving arguments to proof their point which is in sharp contrast to a believer who is a man of few words.
