اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
“WALLI”
Literally means to be near, befriend, so as there is nothing in between them. In Arabic you say “dar ul walli” meaning nearest house.
Another meaning is to make contracts with each other. To look after the affairs or manage.
Once you turn toward someone it is obvious that you will turn away from another. If you face toward west your face will be away from east. So sometimes the word “walli” will mean to turn away, to avoid. Its like two end of straight line. At one end you have west and other east. At one given time you will face in one direction and away from other.
So when Allah says, HE is walli of believers, it’s a great honor. It means Allah is near to believers, HE looks after their affairs, HE has contract with the believers and at the same time it means that Allah turns away from nonbelievers.
BUT,
Alas! Look at yourself, claiming to be believer, when Allah says to you:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَىٰ أَوْلِيَاءَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ ﴿المائدة: ٥١﴾
O believers don’t be “walli” of jews and Christians —————
Keeping in mind the meaning of “walli” Allah has asked you not to live, house near Jews and Christians. So how come you are living among them in their countries? If you live among them you are one of them, as the verse says:
وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ
(Who is “walli” with them is one of them.)
It will also mean that don’t make contracts with Jews and Christians. But look at our countries, ever eager to make contract with them and consider it to be part of progress and prosperity.
It will also mean that don’t manage affairs of Jews and Christians. But see how our people are applying for their management jobs.
Now look at the so called Muslim countries. Breaking their contract with Allah and making their contracts with Jews and Christians. Imagine if petro-dollar contract was not made? All the deposit of oil belong to Allah, it was not us who placed oil underneath the surface, but what have we done?
Similarly consider all the contracts of business, warfare, in the name of NATO, IMF, World Bank, NGO, travel, tourism etc. All we now consider essential but are null and void under this Quran verse.
Your action will have consequences.
By living among them you protect them, you protect non-believers and hence perpetuate their injustice and nonbelief. Allah doesn’t send HIS punishment over nonbelievers if even few believers live among them. See how Allah keeps HIS promise to protect believers and how you break your contract with Allah.
If you live among them, befriend them, eventually you will become like them as the verse tells you i.e. your coming generation will convert to Judaism and Christianity. Because of this imbalance, nowadays Jews and Christian will slowly convert to believers in coming generations and then Allah will be there “walli” because of their belief.
Take heed and listen to Allah command, don’t be among the ones who listen and disobey.
