أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ
MEANING
Allat- Stands for lightening, bright and glistening, a shining object. Shine with flickering light. A pearl.
Due to its brilliance it negates the surrounding thus it is also taken as for no, refusal and denial. Thus this negation is not due to ignorance or lack of something but due to excess and brightness. It is like denial of an intellectual or a scholar or an educated person.
It also represents descend and because of descend it progressively gets clear.
Because of high affinity and force of attraction other objects get around it and keep spinning around it.
INTERPRETATION
Humans are inherently idol worshippers and they like to give form, a physical form to their inner star. This outer form differs according to region and human development.
In the beginning LAT was a white beautifully carved stone which was covered with cloth and people used to guard and sit around it. Area around it was considered to be sacred. it was in Taif. They basically changed the name of Allah to feminine tense and made it weaker. It was representation of their good people, people of high moral and religious values. You still see this type of behaviour in the world. This is evident in tombs, graves, religious sites with statues, and in minor form as placing stones and names on building, highways and places. Essentially , its the stone which becomes the representation of that person. The second component of idol worship consist of people who are around it and their fixed, obsessed attitude with refusal to open up to other arguments.
Islam demands that there should be no idol. Each individual is a separate being and should be given full access to everything needed for his development. No internal idols, ideals. No external idols of bygone peoples. People must accept islam. Break their inner idols, fixtures, and following. Break the external social restrictions which impede their growth.Freedom from all idols and submission to Allah only. Allah, who has no equal and no mithal (example).
